The Russian Twist is a nice and quick exercise that will test the stamina of your abs as well as the explosiveness of your obliques. As always, there's a basic variant and then there are some progressions that will make the exercise more interesting. And intense.
Russian Twists: the basics
Start in sit up position, with your upper body at its highest point. Now instead of lowering your upper body to complete your sit up, turn your torso to one side and touch the ground with both hands. Now turn to the other side and touch the ground again. Congratulations, you've just completed one Russian Twist!
Spicing it up
In order to get your abs more involved, you can lift your feet off the ground while performing your Russian Twists. You can either lift your legs slightly, keeping your knees bent - or you can get into a yoga position called the "boat pose", straightening your legs at a 45° angle from the ground.
